Super yacht ENIGMA XK was built in 1988 by Richards Shipbuilders. She is a 71m / 233ft Conversion motor yacht with exterior design by Philippe Brian and interior styling by Vitruvius. ENIGMA XK offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in 6 cabins with additional room for her crew of 19. She features a variety of amenities to ensure comfortable charter vacations, including Air Conditioning. WiFi connection on board, Deck Jacuzzi, Gym/exercise equipment and Stabilisiers underway.

Challenge

Since years, connected systems have been installed on-board as add-ons on the existing LAN, resulting in hours of maintenance to troubleshoot issues and unexpected slowness. The IT infrastructure onboard the yacht was a stack of routers and L3/L2 switches due to multi installations and upgrades by successive integrators.

Overview

Through a long and reliable partner relationship with the end customer, SeaSatCom proposed to meet the client expectations using a Peplink infrastructure on board ENIGMA XK (72m Expedition Yacht on Antarctic).

Challenge

SeaSatCom is a real one-stop-shop combining the latest technological innovations. Their service range includes: 4G, VSAT, Inmarsat or Iridium and television subscriptions as well as solution engineering, equipment integration, installation and remote support.

Most of their clients are appointing SeaSatCom to manage all their telecommunication and television services on board, benefiting from one single contact.

Over the years, SeaSatCom has become one of the leaders in maritime communications and today around 190 yachts show their trust in them.

Two main difficulties were identified by our pre-sales team:

As ENIGMA XK was located in Cape Town (ZA), the installation was done remotely by the Support Operation Center (SOC) using inControl features. The full setup was performed with minimum headache for the crew who just had to patch the cables on switch ports as described in SeaSatCom’s “Network Installation and Commissionning” guide.

Multiple AV/IT connected systems on-board were easily integrated after a full analysis of the existing data flows and without spending hours to modify device parameters. SeaSatCom’s engineering department composed of Peplink Certified professionals know what to check before preparing such a major LAN refit on-board a yacht.
